We are always looking for new boys who may be interested in the fun and activities associated with the Cub Scout program.

The Scouting movement was started in England early in the previous century by Lord Robert Baden-Powell. William Boyce brought Scouting to the United States in 1910. Since then it has expanded to virtually every country of the world, involving boys and girls of all ages.
The program begins here in the USA with the Tiger Cubs. After Tigers, a scout becomes a Wolf Cub then a Bear Cub. There is a two year transition program between Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts called Webelos. The adventure continues by joining a Boy Scout Troop. Boy Scouts have the opportunity to hike, backpack, camp, rock climb, ski, swim, canoe, go white water rafting, go mountain biking almost any adventure you can think of!

But first let's get started in Cub Scouting!

There are many activities that take place over the entire year. And many activities are designed to engage the entire family. Cub Scouting places a great value on Cub Scouts and their families working together as they follow the Scouting trail.

What is Cub Scouts Anyway?

Cub Scouts is a place to learn new skills

  • Like tying knots, and using tools
  • Like building cars and boats to race them
  • Like participating in age-appropriate activities
  • Like learning songs and skits
  • Like growing plants
  • Like learning new games
  • Like TEAMWORK!

Cub Scouts is a place to learn about our community and the environment. Take field trips to the Police Station, Fire Station, newspaper, City Hall. Take field trips to the Recycling Center, or a great campfire experience. Cub Scouts is a place to do some really fun things like hiking, camping, going to the Maryland Science Center. Cub Scouts is a place to make new friends!

How To Join Pack 662?

First, you have to meet some very simple requirements: You must be a grade school student (1st through 5th grade -- or 7, through 10 years of age).   Boys are organized into dens according to age. Each den is led by a den leader and an assistant. Parents of new Cub Scouts are encouraged to provide this leadership.
Contact one of the leaders listed on this web site [click on the "Contact Us" link in the navigation bar on the left].  They would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have and get you started.

Benefits of Joining

Of the many benefits of Cub Scouts, our boys have fun at den and pack meetings, outdoor activities, field trips, learning sportsmanship, citizenship, and getting along with others, doing their best for themselves and their den, learning new skills, and doing new things.

What's the Program All About

Cub Scout Dens meet once a week for one hour, usually at school or at the leader's home. A Den consists of 5 to 10 boys and at least two adults. At the Den meeting, the Cubs work on specific crafts, develop skills, work on skits and songs. Parents (or adult partners) are expected to attend Den meetings with the boys and participate along with the activities.
Once a month the whole Pack -that's all Tiger Cub, Cub and Webelos Dens -- gather for a Pack meeting. Pack Meetings are award ceremonies, and usually involve a special activity.
The January Pack Meeting is the Pinewood Derby. The February Meeting is the Blue and Gold Banquet which is a very special awards ceremony. The June Meeting is Pack Graduation. (See "
Calendar of Events" for a more detailed schedule.) Additionally, the Pack goes camping at least 2 times a year. Most Pack meetings are held at Ridgeway Elementary School.
